Privacy and Data Handling

FieldKit is an editorial resource about wild plant identification, and we keep the data side just as plain as the field notes. This page explains what we collect when you read or write to us, why we collect it, and how you can reach the person responsible for privacy questions.

Last updated: this page reflects our current practices and will be revised if our tools or providers change.

Questions, Corrections, and Second Opinions

Send a note

Field identification is a slow skill, and most of the mistakes we hear about come from a single feature being trusted too early. If a leaf margin, a stem base, or a berry cluster on this site does not match what you are seeing in the field, write it down and send it over. Corrections to a description are just as useful as questions, especially when a plant shifts appearance between spring growth and late-season fruit. We read everything that arrives, though we cannot promise a reply on any particular day.

Best for short questions about the material published here. For anything involving photographs or a longer description, email is easier to work with.

Send leaf photos, stem cross-sections, or a note about a comparison that reads wrong. Clear, well-lit images of the whole plant help more than a close-up of one leaf.

A reminder before you write in: nothing on this site is medical advice, and no identification can be confirmed from a photograph alone. If you or someone else has already eaten a plant you are unsure about, contact a poison control center or emergency services right away rather than waiting on an email.
